: The move by Twitter to bow to Dictatorships and censor tweets has left the international Twitter community scratching its head- does Twitter not remember the power of #iranelection that showed for the first time the power of the microblog to spread truth in the face of fascism? Twitter’s move could mark the beginning of the end of the now giant microblog merchant on the world stage as potential world-wide freedom fighters now scramble to build viable alternatives to Twitter in the wake of this epic capitulation- We were a part of the #iranelection event and saw firsthand how a free microblog platform could help liberate oppressed people around the world. The green revolution of Iran failed because it had no strong leaders and no outside international support. Had it had a modicum of outside support, especially from the indifferent Obama administration, it could have toppled a dangerous regime now racing to arm itself with the bomb. Without Twitter, the revolution could not have materialized, been coordinated as well as it was. Knowing that Twitter is now ready to pull its tweets at the behest of such leaders as Putin and the new Kim of North Korea must encourage freedom fighters around the world to develop open source microblogging solutions that won’t bow down to their fascist masters as Twitter has done with this move – excerpt below
