What is Education?

Education is the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, values and abilities through study, experience and/or training.

Education is a lifelong process that starts at birth and ends when the individual dies. Education includes formal learning (schooling) as well as informal learning (learning from experience). The word education comes from the Latin word “educare” which means to lead out or to draw out. .Throughout history, educational practices have varied in their principles and methods. The purpose of education can vary from preparing for a new generation to developing the body and mind of an individual for a future career. The three types of educational practices are classical, progressive and regressive learning. Classical learning consists of techniques that were used in Ancient Greece by Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. Examples of this practice include memorizing pieces of information through repetition or drilling to ensure success. Progressive learning is typically used in education, although it can also be found in business and daily life.Progressive learning is a form of “active learning” which involves the learner engaging in a process to learn. The first stage of progressive learning is usually observation where the learner gains information from the teacher or material. In this stage, learners typically make generalizations from what they observe, before proceeding to analyzing and synthesizing what they have learned. This process continues until the learner has achieved mastery at an intellectual level
